The concept of ether examined through ODTOE. Classical ether as a material medium is not needed, yet the need it expressed was justified: light and interactions require something to propagate in. ODTOE answers that observation propagates not in something but from something — from the field of potential states H. Ether is what H wanted to be but could not: not a material medium but a space of all possibilities from which the observer constitutes reality. A correspondence table classical ether → quantum vacuum → field H is established; the three historical 'murders' of ether (Michelson-Morley, GR, QFT) transformed rather than eliminated the need.
